At 1:44 a.m. on April 14, Longmont Public Safety responded to an apartment fire near the intersection of 17th Avenue and Hover Street. The fire was contained by Longmont Fire Department personnel to the unit in which the fire started and was reportedly put out within 20 minutes (by 2:16 a.m.), according to the City of Longmont’s public information officer, Rogelio Mares. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Longmont Public Safety said that “a female occupant was present in the apartment” during the fire and “managed to escape through a bedroom window, as flames blocked her path through the front door.” The apartment was located on the third floor, according to Mares. Other residents of the apartment building called 911 to report the fire. Neither the occupant nor any members of the fire department sustained injuries from the incident.

The apartment in which the fire burned sustained significant damage and is now uninhabitable. According to Longmont Public Safety, electricity has since been restored to all units except for the affected one and Xcel Energy was on-site as of Monday afternoon to restore gas service to the remaining units.
