An underage sales operation on Aug. 26 conducted by Longmont Police and the Colorado Department of Revenue Marijuana Enforcement Division yielded citations for four local retail marijuana stores, violations that surprised law enforcement.
“Investigators were disappointed as this was a higher incidence of sales to minors than expected,” according to a Longmont Police news release. “This is a significant shift from prior compliance rates reported by the Marijuana Enforcement Division, which reported a 97% compliance rate from prior underage checks they conducted in 2019 and 2020.”
The underage volunteer did not hide their identity nor hide their age at any of the seven stores contacted, the news release states. The volunteer presented their United States Permanent Resident Card or possessed a Colorado Driver License (under 21), and if asked, they were instructed to provide the clerk their actual age.
The employees of the failed businesses were cited and regulatory reports will be filed for administrative action against the involved employees and business owners, the news release states.
Unlawful sales took place at two Longmont businesses:
- The Green Solution, 206 Main St.
- Twin Peaks Dispensary, 900 S. Hover St., Unit A
County dispensaries:
- Native Roots Longmont, 19 S. Sunset St., Boulder County
- Elevated Strains, 9800 North 119th St., Boulder County
Officials will continue compliance checks and they urge “all businesses to continue to train their employees on the law regarding sales and follow the requirements under the law,” the news release states.
