Longmont City Council Approves First Appropriation of 2018

On Tuesday night, Longmont City Council unanimously approved ordinance O-2017-02 which appropriates an additional $5,036,854 to the public safety fund.

The additional appropriation is funded by the Public Safety Tax, which was passed by voters on November 7, 2017, and brings the total 2018 budget to $320,268,593. The Public Safety Fund will have a total budget in 2018 of $12,435,440.

Public Safety Chief Mike Butler spoke during a city council meeting in September 2017 and stated that the funds would primarily go towards funding 20 full-time employees.

No one spoke for or against the ordinance during the public hearing.
