The city of Longmont may be providing a van to transport all homeless people in Boulder County needing services at the COVID-19 Recovery Center in Boulder.

City council members Tuesday night will consider the request to make the city’s van the sole transportation for homeless people needing to temporarily isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19, according to a city staff report.

The report states the demand for Longmont residents needing recovery center services has been low. Should any Longmont residents need to access the facility’s services in the future, city of Boulder staff members will provide transportation using Longmont’s van, the report states.

The city designated and outfitted a van from its fleet to transport Longmont residents needing services to the recovery center when Longmont entered into an agreement with the city of Boulder and Boulder County to open the recovery center in 2020.

Boulder transported its residents to the facility with a van donated for use by a nonprofit agency. That agency now needs to use its van to support its own operations, the staff report states.

Currently, the city of Longmont covers maintenance and insurance costs for the van, and will continue to do so under an intergovernmental agreement approved by the city council on Tuesday..

The city of Boulder will be responsible for all damages to the van during their use and will be responsible for worker’s compensation coverage and other supplemental insurance for their staff, the report states.

Boulder will also ensure the van is clean and disinfected upon its return to the city, the intergovernmental agreement states.
