Longmont City Council will once again discuss what to do with nearly $1 million from the sale of the Denver Broncos.

Last year, Longmont was notified via a letter that the city would be receiving $980,481 distributed by the Metropolitan Football Stadium District as part of the profits shared with cities and counties following the $4.65 billion sale last year. The letter said that the money must be used toward “youth activity programs,” but doesn’t specify much more.

The city council has had a few meetings debating how this windfall might be spent. In January, three proposals were presented.

Longmont Latinx Voices asked for $100,000 for funding sports equipment rentals for underprivileged youth, Councilmembers Shaquita Yarbrough and Susie Hidalgo-Fahring proposed a multi-purpose dome and Councilmember Tim Waters advocated for $500,000 of the money be used for expansion of the Longmont Museum’s Children’s Gallery along with $1.5 million of oil and gas revenues.

At the Jan. 24 city council meeting, council asked for two items to be brought back for discussion at the next regular meeting. Those items for discussion and possible decision are whether to allocate $50,000 from the Broncos money to Longmont Latinx Voices and the allocation for the museum expansion.

Staff said they are still investigating the construction, operation and maintenance costs of a multi-purposed dome as directed by the council.
