Longmont appears to have escaped Wednesday’s wind storm relatively unscathed, with only one reported large power outage and no large-scale incidents nor closures to city facilities, according to officials.

A power outage affected 1,600 people in the Southmoor Park area about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday but power was restored shortly after noon, said Longmont Power & Communication spokesman Scott Rochat. “...Storms like this can create a number of smaller outages to respond to,” Rochat said via email Wednesday. “Whether it’s wind or ice or snow, we take weather events like this seriously, and we work hard to make sure we can respond quickly and safely when and where we’re needed.”

Winds clocked at 95 mph or more forced the Boulder County Courthouse in Boulder to close Wednesday and COVID-19 testing was halted at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont.

In Longmont, there were no reported closures or damages to city buildings, spokesman Rigo Leal said via email Thursday morning. “We seemed to heed the warnings and reacted appropriately,” Leal said.

Longmont Public Safety spokeswoman Robin Ericson said Wednesday morning there were no public safety problems related to the storm.

Calmer weather is forecast for Longmont for the rest of today and Friday, with highs reaching into the mid-40s, according to the National Weather Service.
