It is that time of year again when the colorful leaves of fall have begun to collect on the ground.

Each year, the city of Longmont makes a pass through the city, collecting bagged leaves from neighborhoods. The annual collection is scheduled to begin on Monday for residences located north of Ninth Avenue. Those located south of Ninth Avenue will have their leaves collected Nov. 4-8.

City collectors will begin picking up bagged leaves as early as 7 a.m. during collection weeks.

The city asks that leaves be placed in bags. The city encourages residents to use paper bags to reduce the amount of plastic waste, however, plastic will be accepted. The bags should be placed in front of the property on the curb. Even if your trash is usually collected from an alley, leaves should be along the curb. The city will not collect bagged leaves from private properties.

Only one pass will be made for leaf collection. If a resident misses the collection or has more leaves that fall after the collection date, they are encouraged to either loosely place the leaves in their compost bin, no bags please, or drop bagged leaves off at the Longmont Recycling Center, located at 140 Martin St.

Bags can be picked up at the Longmont Recycling Center, while supplies last. They can also be purchased at local hardware and retail stores.
