Sue Sjodin, who has been a Longmont Public Library employee for 27 years, fulfills orders at the library on Tuesday, March 23, 2021. "This is my second family. I love the Longmont library," says Sjodin. "I am glad we are serving the public again. I did not like it when we initially closed during the pandemic. We have great patrons that we have developed relationships with and they deserve to have access to the materials at the Longmont Public Library." says Sjodin. / Kort Duce

The Longmont Library announced, today, that it will reopen after a 17-month closure.

Like all civic building, the library closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. During the closure, the city of Longmont set out to replace the carpet throughout the building. During the process, it was discovered that the library had a crack in the concrete floor, Nancy Kerr, library director, told reporters last spring.

The structural repairs caused the library to remain closed while other businesses and organizations were able to open to the public.

The Longmont Library is scheduled to welcome the public in once again on July 19 at 10 a.m. with a limited schedule until after Labor Day weekend.

The library will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m.

After Labor Day weekend the hours will resume the pre-pandemic hours of Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

Although patrons will once again be able to pick up books, use computers, browse the collections and much more, the curb-side delivery service will still be available through the holiday weekend. No changes will be made to the curb-side process once the doors reopen. Patrons can still request materials, park in the east-side parking lot, call 303-651-8476 and retrieve their materials from the tables outside the east entrance.

In the past, the library has been a place for groups to meet. The group study rooms on the second floor will reopen when the library does, however, the meeting rooms will remain closed until after the holiday.

Throughout the pandemic, the library staff have pivoted programming for children and adults to a virtual format. These program will remain virtual until after Sept. 6.

"Library officials are currently anticipating resuming in-person programming and meeting room reservations," states a news release from the library.

"We can't wait to open our doors! Although we've tried our best to deliver books, programs and services throughout COVID and construction, libraries are all about access and we have really missed interacting with our wonderful patrons," Kerr said.
