Mayor Joan Peck said she wants to engage residents in one-and-one conversations about the city’s most pressing topics in an upcoming series of mayoral chats that start March 12.

Peck hopes the newly minted Mayor’s Community Conversation series will mimic the kind of talks she had with people when she ran for mayor last fall.

“I just had so much fun, when you are running for office you just go around and knock on doors and ask people what they think about the city … what they like the city is doing what they don’t like,” Peck said. “It’s nothing formal, I just want to understand what is on people’s minds.”

The Mayor’s Community Conversation series will be hosted by Peck and Mayor Pro Tem Aren Rodriguez. The four, hour-long meetups will feature specific topics that are important to the community, Peck said.

The community conservations will be held on Saturdays every quarter through the rest of 2022. The March 12 meeting will focus on homelessness and the issues and challenges the homeless create for the community, she said.

The March 12 meetup is scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. at Lashley Street Station, 1200 Lashley Street.

“If people have something to say about homelessness, I hope they come out,” Peck said.

The schedule for future conversations are:

  • Saturday, June 4, 9 to 10 a.m.
  • Saturday, September 10, 9 to 10 a.m.
  • Saturday, December 3, 9 to 10 a.m.

Future meeting topics and event locations will be announced soon, according to a city of Longmont news release.
