The Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Rd., will host a series of films that illustrate life during World War I for their Views & Brews film series Thursday evenings March 1 through 22. All movies are paired with a signature cocktail, and the Longmont Museum’s galleries will remain open from 5-9 p.m. on movie nights. Exhibits can be toured for free (with purchase of a movie ticket).
In addition to the Thursday night Views & Brews film series, the Museum will host a special screening of the silent film, Wings, with a live orchestra on Sunday, March 18. Wings is the most famous silent film made about World War I, winning the very first Oscar for Best Film. The aerial adventure features two fledgling aviators itching to take on the Kaiser’s aces. The movie features Clara Bow, Charles “Buddy” Rogers, Richard Arlen and Gary Cooper.
The Mont Alto Orchestra, a five-piece chamber orchestra, will perform the musical score for the film. Mont Alto was formed in Colorado in 1989, and they have scored more than 125 silent films with historic orchestrations. The special screening of Wings at the Museum’s Stewart Auditorium will take place on Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15/Adults; $12/Veterans, Students and Seniors. The WWI Views & Brews film series will take place March 1, 8, 15 and 22. The Museum will be open for extended hours on these evenings from 5-9 p.m. A cash bar and the Swan Atrium will open at 6 p.m. and the movies will begin in the Museum’s Stewart Auditorium at 7:15 p.m. Tickets for the films (includes free admission to the Museum’s exhibits) is $8/General Admission; $5/Museum members. Signature cocktails, beer, wine and snacks will be available for purchase. The four movies being shown for this series are listed below, along with online links to purchase tickets.
