A proposed volunteer and evaluation coordinator for the Longmont Museum that is requested under the city of Longmont’s $389.55 million operating budget would add much needed help for the strained facility.

Or so says a city staff report on the coordinator’s job given to the City Council last week.

The council will vote on the first reading of the proposed budget ordinance on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Staffing is the “Longmont Museum’s most urgent need,” states the staff report. The volunteer and evaluation coordinator will expand the museum’s limited capacity by centralizing and formalizing a volunteer, intern, and work-study program, the report states.

The coordinator will recruit and retain at least a dozen new positions in order to create an “adult focused docent program, expand museum exhibits, develop a Diversity in Arts professional pipeline and bring stability to the museum’s existing volunteer core,” the report states.

The coordinator will also help catalog archives and objects, build exhibits, aid in the Day of the Dead family celebration, school tours, adding teen volunteers and ushers for the Stewart Auditorium, the report said.

“This position will allow a seamless connection between the volunteer program and visitor studies,” the report states.
