Winter Bike to Wherever Weekend!
From Feb. 11 to Feb. 13, Bicycle Longmont and City of Longmont Transportation Planning present Winter Bike to Wherever Weekend, a weekend when Longmonters are encouraged to take their bikes out for a cruise around town. The weekend-long event falls on Feb. 11, or International Winter Bike to Work Day, although “the weather looks a lot warmer this year,” the event description notes.
“Call it Bike to Work Day, Bike to Wherever Day, whatever - let's get out and try a winter ride!”
The city of Longmont will provide cyclists with burritos and warm beverages at a breakfast station on Feb. 11 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Local businesses have offered to support bikers’ efforts throughout the weekend with specials for cyclists. Local deals will include free stickers at all of Bicycle Longmont’s locations, $1 off a first pint for bikers with helmets at Bootstrap Brewing, $1 off pours for cyclists with helmets at Grossen Bart Brewing, a free 12 ounce coffee with a pastry purchase at JavaStop Cafe all day on Feb. 11, 15% off product purchases at Long Mont Velo when you ride in all weekend long, and more. Art & Sip: Block Print Handmade Valentines
Make handmade Valentine’s Day cards for all the people you love at this Art & Sip class at the Longmont Museum on Feb. 10! You’ll carve linoleum rubber blocks to create your own personal stamps and then make prints on handmade cards. The stamps are yours to use again and again. Kusama: Infinity (2018, NR)
From classic cinema to contemporary Japanese artists, this season’s films celebrate the art and culture of Japan. The top-selling female artist in the world, Yayoi Kusama was an underdog with everything stacked against her: growing up in Japan during World War II, a dysfunctional family, sexism, racism, and mental illness. On the cusp of her 90s, she continues to pursue and be devoted to her art full time. The film will start at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Longmont Museum. Friday Afternoon Concert: Purnell Steen and The Five Points Ambassadors
Enjoy an afternoon of live music in our Stewart Auditorium this fall featuring an eclectic array of musical acts from up and down the Front Range. Purnell Steen and The Five Points Ambassadors is dedicated to playing and preserving the music of the legendary Five Points neighborhood in Denver. The Blues-oriented Hard Bop music is basically Swing style. The scintillating Myra Warren rounds out the ensemble. They have been chosen to tour France in 2022 starting with our Sister City, Brest, and continuing throughout France. They performed for many dignitaries, and during the 2008 National Convention, played for the Clintons, and other notables. Purnell is a cousin to Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, George Duke, five-time Grammy Award winner Dianne Reeves, and the legendary Charles Burrell. The concert will take place on Friday, Feb. 11 starting at 2:30 p.m. in the Stewart Auditorium at the Longmont Museum. Longmont Artists' Guild Spring Art Show will run from Feb. 11 to April 2 at the Great Frame Up at 430 Main St. in Longmont. There will be a reception for the art show on Feb. 11 starting at 5:00 p.m.

Birds of Prey Driving Tour
Join Discover Boulder County for a driving tour to view birds of prey from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Feb. 12. Follow the tour map to stations where a volunteer naturalist can help you search the skies for raptors, learn about their habitat, and work on your observation and identification skills. Every Tuesday, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. is Open Chess Night at the Longmont Public Library! We will have some tables set aside on the 2nd floor for playing with chess sets available. However, you may bring your own set. This event is open to all ages, but those 16 and younger must have an adult with them at all times. Evenings will be informal and there will be no instruction on how to play (we do have books on the subject)!

Queer & Nerdy Game Night is a fun way for Longmont and BoCo LGBTQQA+ adults to make new friends and nerd out on some games! At Prideful Wellness Self Car Center, we enjoy cooperative to semi-cooperative board games like Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle and Mysterium, as well as silly and competitive games such as Exploding Kittens and Unstable Unicorns, or simple games with dice and playing cards. Whatever we play, the goal is to have fun and make new friends within our community.

The Dickens’ Opera House facade and sign is an iconic part of Downtown Longmont. In this Art n’ Sip class starting at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 17 at the Longmont Museum, we will paint that very scene with acrylic paint using photos for reference. Learn how to use graphite tracing paper over a photograph to create a realistic drawing you can then paint! Grab a drink and get creative with these classes for adults. Voices of Change Part IV: The Japanese-American Experience
Members of Longmont’s longstanding Japanese-American community share their family histories and reflect on the 80th anniversary of Executive Order 9066, which authorized the internment of anyone of Japanese ancestry from the West Coast. This free-to-attend talk starting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17 at the Longmont Museum will feature members of the Mayeda, Kanemoto, and Tanaka families in Longmont.
