The Library has more than 10,000 LEGO pieces, and at LEGO Club, we get them all out and build! Each time the club meets, we have a different building challenge. We also make a 'shared build' together. Family event- adults and kids build together. Kids younger than 10 years old must be accompanied by someone older than 14 years old dedicated to their care.

ArtWalk is the Firehouse Art Center’s yearly Community Festival that brings together local artists, businesses and nonprofits. It is an event that highlights art, economy and creating positive change in our communities. CERT Basic Training Prepares Community Members for a Disaster

The next Longmont Public Safety CERT class starts September 10, 2022 and is being held on three consecutive Saturdays. There is no cost to attend.  30 seats available.

Disasters can severely restrict and overwhelm emergency responders, and in some cases, communities can be cut off from outside emergency support. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training teaches community members how to prepare for emergencies. Team members learn to take care of themselves and to help others in their communities until first responders arrive.

Join in a community conversation around race, facilitated by Annie Caplan of Living Room Conversations. In small groups of four to six people, participants will explore their personal experiences around the given topic:

5:30-7 pm on Sept.14 Empathy: Sharing experiences giving, receiving and observing empathy.

5:30-7 pm on Oct. 12 Status and Privilege: From education to wealth to gender to race, let’s talk about what we have…and what we desire.

5:30-7 pm on Nov. 9 Race and Ethnicity: This conversation is an opportunity to explore our experience of race and ethnicity. Where are we and what do we aspire to for ourselves and our community?

These sessions work best when taken together, but you can drop in to anyone of them. No registration is required.

 Boulder Voices For Children (BVFC)

Colorado’s second oldest court appointed special advocate (CASA) program for vulnerable youths in the judicial system, has announced its annual fundraising gala, Night of Hope, will be taking place from 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the Boulder JCC (6007 Oreg Ave., Boulder, CO 80303).

The Colorado Casual-themed event will feature Colorado-based cuisine by Greens Point Catering, locally made brews and spirits, live entertainment by local acts the Hummin’ Birds and The Intolerables, a photo station provided by The ShutterBus VW Photo Booth Bus, and an engaging program including a paddle raiser emceed by popular auctioneer Debbie Scheer from The Gala Team.

“Night of Hope is BVFC’s annual gala where we gather to celebrate the wonderful work our volunteers provide for youths in our community,” said Steve Callander, interim CEO. “We look forward to celebrating the next chapter of growth for our organization and raising funds to continue to support children across Boulder County,” he added.

The Yip About Prairie Dogs

These fascinating creatures are more than cute little rodents who chew up the grass. This entertaining, lively presentation by Volunteer Naturalist with Boulder County Parks & Open Space delves into the ecology, social structure, life cycle, behavior and language of this species – the pillar of the prairie. Registration is required and opens on Monday, Aug. 22.

This year, Boulder County Senior Law will resume as an in-person event. After two years of presenting virtual webinars, this legal education event for seniors will return on September 24, 2022 from 9 AM until 1 PM at the Boulder Jewish Community Center, located at 6007 Oreg Ave., Boulder, CO.

This free event features a keynote speech by Boulder County District Attorney Michael

Dougherty on Elder Abuse, as well as several other presentations on legal topics of importance to seniors and caregivers.

Our popular Ask-A-Lawyer sessions will also resume in-person. Senior Law Day attendees can sign up for a free 15-minute consultation with an attorney on a walk-in basis during the event. Lawyers who specialize in a variety of senior-related practice areas will be on hand.

The event is free to attend. Pre-registration will be available through our website and—though appreciated–is not required to attend the event. Attendees may pick up a free copy of the Colorado Bar Association’s Senior Law Handbook at the event while supplies last. Coffee and a continental breakfast will be available at the event.

Celtic Fest

Saturday from 11 a.m. -7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Experienced Celtic fans will find old friends like the RenScots, who offer a wee experience of Highland life to all comers, young and old. And celebrated musicians Angus Mohr and Gadbaw &Krimmel will stir the blood and gladden the hearts for dancers and listeners. With craft and food vendors a-plenty, festival-goers will enjoy sampling St. Brigit’s famous Bath Water Beer, brewed by Longmont brewery Grossen Bart while they explore clan heritage and shop for kilts, toys, or tam o’shanters. Sports fans will be amazed at the Highland athletics like the caber toss and the stone throw. The “Parade of British Isle Dogs” is expanded this year to include all dogs of the British Commonwealth, so look for entry forms on the festival website, www.celticfestbrigit.org.

Join VCP for Blues, Brews and BBQ

In celebration of VCP’s village of 26 tiny homes and Village Community Center along with new initiatives aimed at reaching Veterans in rural areas, we’re excited to welcome back Blues, Brews and BBQ on Oct. 1. Last year, this signature event for VCP of Longmont brought together over 150 community and vivid leader to raise critical mission funds and enjoy a beautiful Colorado evening.

Our second annual event will feature the award-winning Johnny O band, local brews, fun games and a delicious dinner featuring VCP’s own Bravo Bravo Que sauce.

  • Speak directly with those most affected by incarceration

More about the film: Most people have heard that the United States is the most incarcerated country in the world, but often overlooked is the particular impact incarceration has on women.

TRI has been partnering behind the scenes to create a full length documentary about the cycle of trauma and incarceration, looking specifically at how women, families, and communities are hit the hardest. We will watch a 'short' version of the work-in-progress and offer a talk back with the film director, impacted women, and community leaders working with and within the department of corrections.
