Workforce Boulder County virtual course: the Future of Work

From 1 to 2:30 on Jan. 10, the Workforce Boulder County will introduce, Future of Work, a special virtual workshop collaboration with Katherine Keegan, Director of the Office of the Future of Work with Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. At this event, attendees can expect to see Al, automation and even some robots. 

“The future of work may seem uncertain, scary, even exciting. Many jobs will change, some will disappear and others will be created. Learn about future work trends and how to prepare to be a thriving part of this future workforce.”

Building a Bank Relationship online course

Determining whether or not to use a financial institution – and which financial intuition to use – is challenging. In this virtual workshop from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 6 offered by Workforce Boulder County, we discuss how financial institutions can serve as a tool to help you reach your financial goals. We review various banking terms and vocabulary so you feel empowered and in-the-know when talking with your current or future financial institution. We navigate the pros and cons of using a financial institution and how to get started working with a bank or credit union. We empower you with the knowledge to evaluate and choose the financial institution and products that work best for you. Leave this workshop knowing how to effectively establish, re-establish or end banking relationships. 

Cheesemaking 101 Class

Kate Johnson will  share the basic science behind cheese making as she covers key ingredients, basic equipment, how to choose and source the best milks, and more. She’ll even walk you through the steps to make your own homemade artisan ricotta and you’ll discover that there’s as much art involved in making artisan cheeses as there is science! Alcohol Ink Creation Class w/ Pretty Nice Creations

Learn to create abstract pieces of alcohol ink artwork in a class on Jan. 8 at the Firehouse Art Center. We will start with a ceramic tile/magnet, then practice on yupo paper! The class is $40 and includes supplies. If you would like to bring your own alcohol ink (in specific colors you like), you are welcome to!

What's better than lounging around all day Sunday in your pajamas? Onsies and cider! We will celebrate with you every Sunday through the end of February for Onsie Sundays at St. Vrain Cidery. Pop into the taproom on Sunday in your onsie and get $1 a pour or $4 off a flight. 

Knitting Class at the Firehouse Art Center (1/2)

The Beginning Knitting class at the Firehouse Art Center teaches the basics of knitting including casting on, knit, purl, increase, decrease and binding off. Learning to read a pattern will also be included in these, 2 x two hours, sessions. We will be making a smaller version of this teddy bear in the picture. There are many ways to create and utilize a budget and there is no “one size fits all” model. In this virtual workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 12, Workforce Boulder County explores “Behavioral Economics” and looks more closely at how, where and why we use our money in the ways that we do. Learn how values based decision making helps you stay on track with your long term goal by owning your day-to-day financial choices. Discuss terms & practices for developing a budget and dive into strategies to track your income and expenses. Leave this workshop with new or improved ideas to take your money management to the next level.

Open Chess Night

Every Tuesday, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. is Open Chess Night at the Longmont Public Library! We will have some tables set aside on the 2nd floor for playing with chess sets available. However, you may bring your own set. This event is open to all ages, but those 16 and younger must have an adult with them at all times. Evenings will be informal and there will be no instruction on how to play (we do have books on the subject)!

Speakeasy Open Mic | Downtown Longmont, CO

The Speakeasy Open Mic Night in Longmont is *the* place to take the stage in Longmont. 2nd Fridays at St. Vrain Cidery! Cider & Ceramics!

Join us at St. Vrain Cidery every second Friday of the month from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for Cider and Ceramics. There will be some painting and fun! The cost is $25 or $40 depending on the item you select to paint! Items include steins, growlers, seasonal items, kid items, dishware, etc. First pour included in the cost! Happy Hour just got colorful! Kids are welcome! Pieces will be brought back to their Boulder store to be fired and set. You  can then either pick up the pieces at their Boulder store or at the taproom!

Nature Detectives: Voles Dig In - Boulder County

Discover the secret world where voles and other critters hide beneath the snowpack in this interactive program from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 and enjoy getting outside in the winter.
