Longmont out and about: VapeAware Takeback event gives people an opportunity to quit vaping

Vape Takeback Event | Downtown Longmont, CO 

The Boulder County Hazardous Materials Management Facility is partnering with the Boulder County Public Health Tobacco Education Prevention Partnership to host a free VapeAware Takeback Event on Saturday, August 21 at the St. Vrain Community Hub located at 515 Coffman St. in Longmont from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. At the event, residents of Boulder County, City and County of Broomfield and Town of Erie can drop-off their vaping devices and start their journey towards a vape-free life. E-cigarettes containing lithium-ion batteries, e-liquid and pods will be accepted. Event organizers ask that leaking containers be sealed in a plastic bag prior to dropping them off. Pop-up Produce Distribution

Longmont Food Rescue will be distributing fresh, locally-grown vegetables in partnership with Longmont United Hospital, Uproot Colorado, and Growing Gardens from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday in the Longmont United Hospital parking lot. The produce comes from local growers such as Brown Dog Farm, Treehouse Collective, Mary's Hands, and Growing Gardens Food Project Farm at the Longmont YMCA, as well as home gardeners affiliated with Longmont United Hospital. The distribution is open to anyone seeking food resources with the goal of alleviating hunger in our community. 

Neo-Noir Night at Longmont Public Media 

On Friday, from 5:45 to 8:00 p.m. at Longmont Public Media, join us in our big tv studio for our Noir Night! An evening of heists, murder investigations, and double-crossing femme fatales. Popcorn and waters will be provided and this event is BYOB. The featured film is The Man Who Wasn’t There, a Neo-noir starring Billy Bob Thornton, Frances McDormand and John Gandolfini. The film will screen at ~6:15pm, but be sure to get here at 5:45pm for mingling and information about the film and others like it. Open discussion is encouraged after the screening as well! This event is open to all! Longmont Public Media members and non-members welcome! All donations from this event will go towards new movie screening equipment so we can continue to share more films with the community. Seats are limited and sign up is required so register today!

Your Story, Your Power (Youth Program) | Downtown Longmont, CO

We are inviting youth to join us in person from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Longmont Community Justice Partnership to break isolation and rebuild community. Your Story Your Power is a new theatre program (for non-theatre people) created by LCJP and Mirror Image Arts! This program offers a safe learning environment where young people can take risks, self-reflect, and connect. Bringing together the fun of improv theatre with socio-emotional skills practice and the empathy-building power of restorative justice. This is an affirming space for people to reintegrate with peers around stories we can all relate to and recognize. Ages 14-21 are welcome, lunch is provided! (We are currently following CDC guidelines for community health.)

Coffee with a Geek - Aug 26, 2021 - Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce

Coffee with a Geek is a new program of the Longmont Chamber in partnership with Data Ductus. Come enjoy free advice and talk to a real person about tech-related issues you may be experiencing. The event will take place on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at La Vita Bella at 471 Main Street in Longmont. Drop by for 15 minutes or an hour, we are here to help!

On Sunday, August 29, from 12 to 3 p.m. at Lavern Johnson Park, 600 Park Dr., Lyons, CO 80540, Left Hand Watershed Center will host a celebration of Watershed health, science and community. What are the components of a watershed and why do they matter? The Watershed Days Festival aims to engage Front Range communities in learning about watershed health and recovery through events that support water education, outreach, and innovation. Fun for all ages with booths, music, dancing, games, freebies, and free snow cones for the first 200 people! Hands-on experiences will raise awareness and provide connections about the health and recovery of watersheds and forests in Colorado. Tickets are free.
