Today, September 24, 2018, Longmont Police responded to a suspicious situation involving two individuals who were arguing about a dog.
Responders headed toward the scene, located in the 300 block of S. Francis Street when a second call came in reporting that one party had stabbed the other.
Both individuals are brothers, residing at the same residence. The argument began over the stabbing of a dog, that happened earlier in the day. The dog's body was found on the premises during the police investigation.
The victim was transported to Longmont United Hospital where he passed due to his injuries.
The suspect, Daniel Lopez was arrested and transported to Longs Peak Hospital to be treated for a dog bite. The knife, suspected to be used in the incident, was found near the scene.
Longmont Police Department states, "At this time there is no danger to the community. Witnesses to the incident have been identified and are being interviewed. Anyone who may have information about this incident or may have seen the stabbing is asked to contact the Longmont Police Department as soon as possible at 303-651-8501."
