Longmont Power and Communication's Stats

Longmont is the only city in Colorado with ownership and operational control over its water, electricity and broadband services. As a result, it has some of the lowest costs and highest quality services, not only in Colorado but in the region.

Longmont is the only city in Colorado with ownership and operational control over its water, electricity and broadband services.  As a result, it has some of the lowest costs and highest quality services, not only in Colorado but in the region.

The Longmont Power and Communication group will present quarterly update numbers to the Longmont City Council at the next City Council meeting on 6/6/17.   For a look at the full document, click this link: LPC Electric &  Broadband.

Following are most of the relevant facts from this quarterly update.

We encourage you to engage with your community and go to the weekly City Council meetings to see presentations of information like this with more detail and explanation than we can provide here.  City Council meets most Tuesdays at 7pm at the Civic Center, 350 Kimbark Street, next to the Public Library.

Highlights for the broadband (NextLight) side of LPC:

  • Customer Satisfaction with NextLight is approx 9.2 out 10.

  • The 'take rate' (percentage of people subscribing to the NextLight service) is substantially higher than original feasibility studies predicted.  Approx. 51% of all premises that could subscribe, do subscribe.

  • Network up-time is very close to 100%.

  • Approximately 95% of the cities build out system is complete with 31,642 premises passed (meaning: NextLight is available for them now).  LPC has installed approximately 523 miles of fiber and 343 miles of conduit.

  • Approx. 94% of the 2017 build out budget of $3,100,000 has been spent and approx 99% of the total build out budget of $51,070,609 has been spent.

Highlights for the electricity side of LPC:

  • The Fall Residential Customer Satisfaction Survey shows an overall rating of approx. 8.5 out of 10.

  • Longmont has the 2nd lowest residential electric rates of the 58 utilities in Colorado.  Colorado's average is 11.4 cents per kWh.  Longmont's rate is 8.2 cents per kWh.

  • Out of the total CIP budget (Captial Improvement Program- see page 56+) for LPC (approx $2795,500), 33% has been spent in Q1 of 2017 (approx. $925,105).

  • The SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index the standard for measuring electric utility reliability) in Longmont is 0.46.  Median SAIFI for the US is approx. 1.10 interruptions per customer.  Lower is better.

  • The SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index) in Longmont is 32 minutes.  The median value for the US is approx. 1.50 hours.  Lower is better.

  • The CAIDI (Customer Average Interruption Duration Index) in Longmont is 70 minutes.   The median value for the US is approx. 1.36 hours.  Lower is better.

LPC has provided dashboards since 2014, and will continue to provide updates on a quarterly basis.
