Longmont will, once again, provide a van to help the homeless in Boulder County get to a shelter to temporarily isolate or quarantine if they are diagnosed or exposed to COVID-19.
The city council voted unanimously to provide a van for the homeless — including those in Longmont — to get to the COVID-19 Recovery Center, 3485 Stanford Court in Boulder. The facility reopened in September to handle the surge of COVID cases in the late summer, according to a city staff report.
The cities of Longmont and Boulder and Boulder County entered into an intergovernmental agreement in March 2020 to operate the COVID-19 Recovery Center, or CRC,. Longmont provided and outfitted a van from its fleet to transport Longmont residents needing CRC services to the CRC, the staff report states.
The CRC closed its operation in June 2021 as COVID cases dipped. Boulder County then negotiated an agreement with a local hotel to provide rooms for the small number of cases needing a location to isolate or quarantine, the report states.
The resurgence of COVID cases in the summer, forced the CRC to reopen. “There is a need, once again, for van transportation and our CRC partners have requested to use the city’s van,” the staff report states.
There was no indication how long the van will be needed.
