After 20 months, the doors to the Longmont Community Theatre have reopened with a new season of local theatre, new seats and a facelift.

The Longmont Community Theatre is excited to announce it is finally opening its newest season of plays, said Board President Faye Lamb.

While the theatre was closed due to pandemic restrictions, the playhouse decided it was a perfect time to make former board member and long-time supporter Tracy Cravens’ dream come true.

In January 2020, Cravens died suddenly. In her memory, friends and family started a Gofundme page to raise money to replace the original seats at the Longmont Community Theatre.

Cravens spent as much of her free time in the theatre as she could and never complained about anything except the seats, Lamb once told the Leader.

One seat among the many was made with a different fabric and honorably named Tracy’s seat.

The heating and air conditioning units were updated during the hiatus as well as new carpet and paint. Lamb said the old building seemed to be asking for an update because when one thing was repaired another need popped up.

The new season will start on with A Tuna Christmas written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard.

A Tuna Christmas is one in a series of four comedic plays written about the fictional town of Tuna, Texas. Written in the 1980s, the play comments on small-town, Southern life and attitudes around the town’s annual Christmas Yard Display Contest.

The play was originally written to only include two actors to play a cast of 20 characters. While some theatre companies expand the cast, Longmont Theatre Company is keeping true to the original intentions of the writers.

The season will continue with favorites such as The Odd Couple, Nunsense and Somethin’ Rotten.

A Tuna Christmas will run Nov. 26 and 27 and Dec. 3,4,10, and 11th with shows at 7:30 p.m. Daytime shows will run on Nov. 28 and Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are on sale for online or phone, at 303-772-5200, purchases only. The Longmont Theatre Company does not plan to open the box office for ticket sales.

Those wishing to see the play are encouraged to arrive early and bring proof of vaccination and a mask, which must be worn throughout the play. Proof of vaccination will be verified outside the box office and patrons will be allowed into the theatre at an even pace to prevent clustering in the small lobby, Lamb said.
