Longmont city staff have begun the 2024 budgeting process and plan to have a general conversation with council about the budget at Tuesday’s study session.
The city manager is required by charter to propose a 2024 operating budget to Longmont City Council by Sept. 1, 2023, meaning decisions on what will or will not be a part of the proposed budget will need to be made over the next couple months.
Staff said in a memo that they are seeking general guidance from the city council and priority of efforts that support the council's vision and work plan. Staff plans to provide an update on some of the city’s major funds.
As this is a reappraisal year, Longmont will likely see property tax grow in 2024. However, sales and use tax performance is lagging after two months of collections in 2024, staff noted.
“Staff will have a short presentation regarding the 2024 budget preparation and will be interested in hearing council's priorities as we continue to work on creating a proposed budget that will meet the City Council vision and work plan,” the memo said.
