Longmont United Hospital is one of eight Centura Health facilities in Colorado that received an A rating from a watchdog group that monitors harm and error in hospitals.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, recently released its Leapfrog Hospital Safety Guide for fall 2021. The guide is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients, according to a news release from Centura Health.

Leapfrog assigns an “A” through “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, according to the news release. Leapfrog’s ratings also take into account hospital systems that prevent errors and accidents, the new release states.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Guide is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring, the new release states.

Dr. Shauna Gulley, Centura Health Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer, said in the news release that the system’s ‘A’ grades are due to the diligence of hospital personnel.

“Our 21,000 caregivers are committed to achieving zero preventable harm for our patients, and these recognitions for top quality and safety are a testament to that dedication,” Gulley said.

The eight Centura Health hospitals in Colorado that received a ‘A’ rating are:

  • Longmont United Hospital
  • Avista Adventist Hospital
  • Castle Rock Adventist Hospital
  • Mercy Regional Medical Center
  • Penrose Hospital
  • St. Anthony North Health Campus
  • St.. Francis Medical Center
  • St. Mary Corwin Medical Center

An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, said in the news release. “I thank the leadership and workforce of Centura Health for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”
