A man was apprehended in Weld County yesterday morning as a felony murder suspect connected to a March 20 incident in El Paso County, Texas. Members of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Violent Offender Task Force (COVOTF) assisted a U.S. Marshals fugitive task force in locating and arresting the suspect, who was found in a mobile home in Dacono.

23-year-old Angel Lozano was booked into the Weld County Jail on August 11 in connection to the Texas warrant related to shots fired, aggravated assault, and the murder of 26-year-old Aaron Villa. The victim died from multiple gunshot wounds after being transported to the hospital following the incident on March 20. A warrant was issued for Lozano’s arrest on July 24 after the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Texas Rangers identified him as the suspect.

The El Paso division of the U.S. Marshals Service’s Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) helped with the investigation and believed Lozano fled Texas following the incident. COVOTF determined Lozano was probably staying near Highway 52 and Glen Creighton Drive in a Dacono mobile home park.

Several agencies assisted by setting up surveillance on the mobile home in question and were able to identify the man as Lozano. Deputy U.S. Marshals from Denver and task force officers from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder Police Department, Colorado Department of Corrections, and Golden Police Department were all involved in this portion of the investigation.

Lozano is scheduled to appear virtually at the Weld County Courthouse in the morning on August 14 for an extradition hearing

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office praised its members and the members of COVOTF who assisted with the investigation and apprehension of the homicide suspect. “We commend their professionalism and dedication, and we’re proud of their ongoing work to help keep our communities safe,” the department said.
