On Tuesday, May 9, 2017, City Council members and Mayor Denis Coombs, designated May 2017 as Older Americans Month in Longmont, Colorado. Sean O'Halloran, President of the Senior Citizen Advisory Board, and Michele Waite, Senior Services Manager, accepted the proclamation.

The City of Longmont adopted the "Envision Longmont Aging Well" Plan, which, according to the proclamation, supports older adults and caregivers of older persons by building and fostering opportunities which promote dignity, wellness, independence, enjoyment, community, and a sense of purpose for older persons in Longmont.

This years national theme is Age Out Loud which, according to the Administration for Community Living, hopes to amplify the many voices of older Americans and raise awareness of vital aging issues across the country.

Per the proclamation and the Envision Longmont Comprehensive Plan Appendix B, the population of older persons 55 year of age and older is the fastest growing population in Longmont and is expected to double by the year 2025.
