Longmont mayoral candidate Gregory Harris this afternoon conceded the race to city council incumbent Joan Peck.

Harris, a retired construction executive and property manager, garnered 5,534 votes in the mayor’s race, according to a Thursday posting from Boulder County Elections. Council member Joan Peck collected 10,818 votes to 9,944 for Tim Waters, who conceded the race to Peck this morning.

In a statement released today , Harris thanked his voters for supporting him in his campaign to be the next mayor of Longmont.

“It’s been a long and difficult campaign. I congratulate Joan Peck and Tim Waters on running strong races.” Harris said.

The race came down to a choice between incumbents and a new face for government, Harris said, adding he would be discussing his next steps with his supporters over the next few days.

Harris’ campaign emphasized making government more transparent for the average citizen, according to the statement.
