Community Food Share Fund Food Drive Weekend

Executive Director of the Community Food Share food bank, Michelle Orge, was present at the City Council Tuesday night meeting to accept the proclamation. This event provides food for more than 40 nonprofits in Boulder and Broomfield counties. As of now, their goal is to provide 25,000 meals to help all the non-profits fight hunger throughout the summer months.

The event is set to happen at three different King Soopers in Lafayette, Longmont and Louisville. The public is encouraged to get involved with this event either through volunteering, by giving a financial contribution, or through donating non-perishable goods.

"We really appreciate the support of the Longmont community. I am a Longmont resident, and appreciate so much of everything that you all do, thank you for the proclamation," said Orge.

Volunteers and staff will be at the locations Friday 4-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • 480 N. Highway 287, Lafayette
  • 995 S. Hover Street, Longmont
  • 1375 S. Boulder Road, Louisville

Community members are able to donate at any of the locations or online at www.communityfoodshare.org/hunger.

Public Service Recognition Week

Also, in following with a 34 year tradition, the first Monday through Sunday in May was proclaimed as being “Public Service Recognition Week” in Longmont. This week is meant to recognize public servants at the local, state, and federal levels.

The proclamation reads, “...the City of Longmont has a long and proud tradition of providing a wide variety of services to its citizens, including police and fire protection, public works and natural resources, municipal airport operations, parks and open space services, planning and development services, golf and recreation services, municipal courts and probation, and, electric and broadband utilities…”

More than 900 full-time and part-time municipal workers, and over 600 temporary workers, are employed by the City of Longmont.

"Of all the cities I've worked for, which would be four other ones, this is by far the most professional, most well trained, and most well educated group of staff that I've ever worked with, and it's been a real privilege," said Assistant City Manager Shawn Lewis.
