Medicine horse announces schedule of equine therapy programs

Medicine Horse offers a variety of support groups and learning sessions in pursuit of their mission to save lives through the empathic healing power of the horse

Medicine Horse announced the 2023 schedule for their signature equine-facilitated learning groups.  “We are extremely excited to announce our 2023 programming calendar. Our goal this year is to expand opportunities and serve more people in our community who face challenges in accessing mental health services,” said Corey Hollister, Executive Director. 

“Equine-facilitated psychotherapy and learning (EFPL) focuses on partnering with the horses to create connection and build relationship as the main objective of the process," said Medicine Horse Therapist Alison McCabe, “At Medicine Horse, we practice equine-facilitated learning in our groups... we use experiences with the horses to practice emotional honesty, courage, risk, and vulnerability with each other and the herd, all the while learning what blocks us and what makes us strong, how to be more aware, present, calm, and confident.”

Rainbow Wranglers is a 6-week program for LGBTQ+ youth aged 13-16 who are interested in learning more about horses and need support for depression and anxiety. The group will meet on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon for the following sessions May 13 to June 17, July 8 to August 12, and September 23 to October 2. Registration is now open for the first session that begins May 13.

Operation Be Herd is an 8-week program for veterans and active duty service members to connect with each other, find peace in nature, and learn about themselves. The group will meet on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon for the following sessions: February 24 to April 14, June 9 to July 28, and September 9 to November 17. Registration is now open for the first session that begins on February 24.

Wholeness with Horses is a 6-week program for women impacted by breast cancer, including those who have recently received a diagnosis, those who are undergoing treatment, and those who consider themselves survivors. The group will meet on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon for the following sessions April 21 to May 26 and August 11 to September 15. Registration is now open for the first session that begins on April  21.

Giddy Up is a 6-week program for high school-aged youth and their parents/caregivers looking to improve relationships with themselves and others. The group will meet on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the following sessions: March 14 to April 18, June 13 to July 18, and September 12 to October 17. Registration is now open for the first session that begins on March 14.

Connecting through Grief is a 6-week program that offers support for those who are experiencing grief due to loss and is recommended for adults who are six months out from their loss. Registration is now open for this group which will meet on Wednesdays, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., from May 20 to June 14.
