The future of a 12-mile segment of East County Line/Weld County Road 1 will be the focus of a series of virtual open houses this week hosted by Longmont, Erie and the Boulder County Public Works Department.
During the online sessions, which will be at 4:30 p.m. daily Tuesday through Thursday, project staff will present information about the master plan for the stretch of road between Longmont and Erie, gather feedback and answer questions, according to a Boulder County news release.
“We had a series open houses back in 2018, and this set of open houses is to look at recommendations that are in the current draft plan and provide comments to include peoples feedback in the final document,” said Tim Swope, a Boulder County Public Works project manager.
Each virtual session will be dedicated to one of three segments of the corridor, including Longmont, Erie and Weld and Boulder counties’ sections, Swope said. “It is a long corridor and has bits and pieces owned by all four jurisdiction so it was important for all to come together to come up with a vision for (it).”
The project started in October 2018 to increase safety of the road. Improvements within the city of Longmont underway are part of the larger master plan, according to Swope. That includes construction on County Line Road between Ninth and 17th avenues that began in July, according to the city’s project website.
The work in progress to connect east Longmont to Colo. 66 will include on-street bike lanes and left-turn lanes, as well as sidewalk upgrades to include trail connections to the Jim Hamm Nature Area and the installation of a traffic signal at the 17th Avenue intersection, according to the project’s site.
Construction of the Longmont segment is expected to be completed in April 2021 with a project shutdown over the winter.
“It’s $50 million worth of project in the master plan, some of the work is being done now and some will be done years in the future,” Swope said.
The virtual open houses are an opportunity for people to comment and give feedback on the project, Swope said, adding direct invites were sent to everyone living along the corridor, as well as all those who have participated in the project up until now. “Everyone is encouraged to join in,” said.
