City Council Tuesday night is scheduled to review several new positions being created as part of Longmont’s proposed $398.55 total operating budget for 2022. The new slots include two rangers to handle work at McIntosh Lake and other parks and open space facilities in Longmont.
The ranger positions are needed to support education and interpretative efforts at McIntosh Lake and locations along the St. Vrain Greenway, a city staff report to the city council states.
Currently coverage of McIntosh Lake, along with the city’s other 41 parks and 100 miles of trails, is provided by a seasonal employee and occasionally by full time staff that can take time away from Button Rock or Union reservoirs, the staff report states.
The council study session is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The public can also speak up about the budget during the study session.
A first reading of the budget ordinance is slated for Oct. 12 and a second session and final passage of the ordinance is scheduled for Oct. 26.
A full-time counselor is also being proposed for Senior Services to handle a growing workload of case management. The counselor would provide short-term, one-on-one counseling, facilitate support groups and consult with family caregivers, the staff report states.
The budget also calls for a development project administrator to act as a “high-level center point of contact for internal and external development customers for designated high priority projects,” the staff report states.
