For the third year, Longmont Meals on Wheels prepares for their annual fundraiser, The Gift of Home Tour.

According to Kathryn Wiser, development coordinator and chair for the fundraiser, "The Gift of Home Tour is a self-guided tour of three beautifully decorated homes with decorations available for purchase, running November 30th and December 1st, with a VIP preview night on November 29th."

This time of year, the Meals on Wheels team is looking for volunteers to help with the event. According to Wiser, the event needs "about 200 volunteers to make the tour run successfully."

Volunteers are asked to work in 2-hour shifts at one of the three homes on the tour and multiple shifts are encouraged. As an incentive, volunteers are offered a discount on tickets to see the other homes on the tour.

Wiser says that the "thing I want people to know about The Gift of Home Tour is that it is outreach to Longmont and Niwot about our programming and how helpful it is to so many folks. Longmont Meals on Wheels is dependent on support from our community. We can’t do what we do without donations and volunteer involvement."

To volunteer contact Katie Wiser by calling at 720-507-7229 or via email at katie@lmow.org.

Community Conversation on Homelessness

The City of Longmont and the Longmont Housing Opportunity Team (LHOT) invite the public to attend a community conversation on ending homelessness in Longmont from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, August 29, at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road. We’ll learn about who is experiencing homelessness in Longmont and resources available to help; discuss ongoing impacts and challenges; and explore how, with commitment and accountability, we can all bring our expertise and resources to the table to help address homelessness locally. Stay on the Mark – Keep Your Meters Accessible

It’s meter-marking time again! Starting September 3, LPC meter readers will put black marks on the sidewalks to show where the meter pits are. This helps them find your meter in the colder months when autumn leaves or winter snow have covered it. Help them out by clearing off your meter when needed – with about 72,000 electric and water meters to read every month, every second counts!

Volunteer at Sandstone Ranch

The Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center at 3001 Sandstone Drive is seeking volunteers to help with second grade educational field trips. This is a great opportunity for people who like to be around children in an outdoor setting, who are able to do some walking, and who have a willingness to learn. Times are 8:30 am to 2 pm on select Tuesdays and Thursdays in September and October. Call 303-774-4692 or 303-774-4694 for details.
