Poverty is a complex issue in Boulder County. While the federal poverty level is $24,300 for a family of four, that same family in Boulder County requires an annual income of more than $80,000 to pay for health care, transportation, food, child care, housing, taxes and all the other everyday costs of raising a family.
Truly understanding poverty in our community makes a difference in how you react to it. To help fill that knowledge gap, the Boulder County Circles Campaign is holding a Poverty Simulation on Sunday, Nov. 4, at the YMCA in Boulder. Take three hours out of your weekend and learn what the working poor must deal with every day.

Participants in this dynamic, hands-on experience are given a budget to work with and then must make the hard choices required of families with limited resources. Can you afford healthy food for your family, and if not who goes hungry? What bills do you decide to pay this month? What do you do when a child or parent gets sick and you don’t have insurance?
These three hours can help you better understand the problems faced by many in our community. Three hours that can guide how you respond to poverty in Boulder County.

Longmont Chamber supports state-wide transportation measure 110, “Let’s Go Colorado.”
The Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce’s board has voted to support ballot measure
110, “Let’s Go Colorado,” a state-wide transportation funding question on the 2018
ballot. The Chamber’s Public Policy Committee reviewed both transportation measures
on the 2018 ballot including 109, “Fix Our Damn Roads.” After hearing from campaign
leaders on both measures, Kelly Brough, CEO of the Denver Chamber for 110 and Jon
Caldara at the Independence Institute on 109, the committee sent recommendations to
the board to support 110 and remain neutral on 109. Read more.
