The overall mosquito population in Longmont has dipped but Culex mosquitoes — , the breed that transmits the West Nile Virus — , remains at historically high levels which means more spraying will commence this week.
Longmont will spay four local neighborhoods to protect residents from contracting the virus, according to a city of Longmont news release.
Vector Disease Control International — - Longmont’s mosquito control contractor — - will spray to eradicate mosquitoes on Thursday night, Sept. 2, weather permitting, the news release states. If necessary and depending on the weather, fogging will continue on Friday night, Sep. 3. Spraying typically begins about 7 p.m. and ends about 11 p.m. the news release states.
Four out of 12 regular zones in Longmont will be sprayed this week:
- Union Reservoir (LM-23)
- Great Western/Mill Village (LM-27)
- St. Vrain Greenway at Emery St. (LM-28)
- Izaak Walton Park (LM-42)
