“And you thought being Catholic would never pay off,” is one line from the Longmont Theatre Company’s latest show “Nunsense.”
Sister Amnesia makes the quip as she hands out prizes for audience participation in LTC’s reopening show.
The theatre opened in December with “A Tuna Christmas,” after being closed for two years because of the pandemic.
The excitement of being open was short lived as COVID-19 restrictions once again forced the theatre to close it’s doors, haunting all work on “The Odd Couple,” LTC’s President Faye Lamb said.
“The Odd Couple” was rescheduled for the fall season.
“Nunsense” reopened the theatre with the added bonus that patrons and cast members no longer need to prove vaccination, a policy LTC reserves the right to reverse should there be a resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
LTC’s reopening opener is unlike most plays seen at the small venue. The cast begins by walking the aisles and joking with patrons, encouraging them to make the most of their role.
The audience itself is part of the play as five nuns host a fundraising event to bury four frozen nuns, who currently are kept in the convents freezer.
Audience be warned there is a quiz and the nun administering it does have a ruler — although the likelihood of her remembering to use it on anyone but herself is slim.
Director Patrick Payne said the play is perfect as he believes what everyone all needs after years if dealing with the pandemic is a little laughter.
Laughter is abundant in this play as the nuns claim their vocation is fun and they are a bit riskee in the opening number.
“Nunscense “ runs through March 27 with shows Friday through Sunday. Tickets are available online.
