On Tuesday night, Longmont Mayor Dennis Coombs proclaimed October 2017 as ‘Pregnancy And Infant Loss Awareness Month’.
Eryn Elder was present at the city council meeting and accepted the proclamation.
"On August 19, 2014, in Longmont, I received a phone call no parent wants and certainly dreads. My child, Evelyn Claire Elder, had stopped breathing at daycare. She was three months and twenty-two days old and her death was deemed a sudden unexplained infant death (SUID).
"SUIDs has no known cause and is the leading cause of infants deaths from ages one month to one year. Unfortunately, funding for SUID research is incredibly low and very low resourced. So I encourage members of our community to continue to find answers to these causes that are unknown, whether they are SUIDS or other pregnancy losses.
"One in four women suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss," stated Eryn.
My Baby Angel Foundation requested the proclamation to increase awareness around pregnancy and infant loss as well as support for the grieving families in our community.
October 15 is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.
