Officials on Saturday announced that the CalWood fire is 100% contained.
The fire, the largest in Boulder County history, started Oct. 17 three miles northwest of Jamestown. It burned 10,106 acres, led to hundreds of evacuations and consumed at least two dozen structures.
Cooler temperatures and snow in recent weeks helped firefighters get a handle on the blaze, and despite Saturday’s high winds, the fire showed no signs of heat or smoke, according to a Saturday afternoon update from the Boulder County Office of Emergency Management.
Elsewhere in Colorado, firefighters also were gaining ground on the Cameron Peak and East Troublesome fires. Respectively, they are the largest and second-largest in state history.
The Cameron Peak fire, burning 208,913 acres southwest of Red Feather Lakes in Larimer County, was 92% contained as of Sunday morning, according to the InciWeb interagency information management system. The estimated containment date is Nov. 22, according to InciWeb.
The East Troublesome fire burning northeast of Kremling was 60% contained. It has burned 193,812 acres, according to InciWeb. The estimated containment date is Nov. 30.
