Days after the roaring Marshall fire that consumed 6,219 acres destroying or damaging over 1,000 homes in the Louisville and Superior areas, officials are letting residents visit their neighborhoods, but through checkpoints.
In an update late yesterday from Dan Dallas, incident commander of the Rocky Mountain Type 1 Incident Management Team, only residents with identification showing proof of address will be allowed into the area.
As of yesterday evening, residents of the Creekside, Circle Park, The Ridge and Davidson Ditch areas are allowed back in. There are no current changes to the evacuation status in Louisville.
Officials warn that lines into these areas through the checkpoints could be long and are asking for patience.
They are also asking that residents not park and walk into neighborhoods that are not currently open to reentry citing it could divert resources away from the fire, which is currently 74% contained and hinder the response to new emergencies.
Fire crews continue to identify areas where fires have the potential to flare up again. "It will take firefighters some time to methodically go around each structure to ensure that they are out and pose no hazard to the fire perimeter or adjacent unburned structures," according to the update.
