An Aug. 24 virtual public meeting will help introduce residents to a proposed overhaul of 120th Street between Overlook Drive and Dillon Road. The planned design widens the road to accommodate two five-foot paved shoulders with two-foot painted buffers to separate shoulder users from vehicular traffic.

The project also proposes to reduce the steep grades of some of the roadway’s hills to reduce the energy use by the numerous large trucks and other vehicles that currently travel the corridor, according to a Boulder County news release.

Boulder County Public Works, along with the city of Lafayette, are partners on the project and will present current designs at the Zoom meeting, scheduled for 5 p.m. Residents must register to view the meeting at www.boco.org/120thmeeting.

Questions will be answered by staff members and feedback will be taken that may be incorporated into the final project design, the news release said.

Additional project details include:

  • Reconstruct 1.25 miles of 120th Street with new profile and pavement to improve drainage.
  • Widen pavement to 36-feet to accommodate vehicle lanes and improved shoulders
  • Add a northbound left-turn lane to the northern Rock Creek Circle intersection to improve safety.
  • Match the road width with striping of the 2021 city and county of Broomfield improvements at the Dillon Road intersection.

Design will take place this year while construction is anticipated to start in 2022 after the city of Lafayette has finished its South Boulder Road project.
