Longmont City Council member Joan Peck is maintaining a slim lead over Tim Waters in the election to become Longmont’s next mayor, according to the latest results posted by Boulder County.

Peck is in front with 40.13% of the 16,541 votes cast while Waters — also a council incumbent — has collected 40% of the vote.

"This like watching a ping-pong match, back-and-forth, back-and-forth," Peck said. She said she is not sure how many more votes have to be counted before the race can be officially called.

Gregory Harris is in third place with nearly 20% of the vote, according to the latest results.

Waters held a small lead over Peck in results posted just after midnight. The latest update was posted at 2:33 p.m.

In the six-person race for two at-large seats on the city council, incumbent Aren Rodriguez is in the lead with 21.88% of the vote followed by Shiquita Yarbrough with 21.77% and Sean P. McCoy with 19.85%. A total of 28,526 votes have been cast in the race.
