The Platte Rive Power Authority — which serves Estes Park, Longmont, Fort Collins and Loveland — opened its annual Roy J. Rohla Memorial Scholarship.

Rohla was a lifelong learner and encouraged his coworkers to pursue educational opportunities, said Jason Frisbie, general manager and CEO of Platte River.

The scholarship is open to graduating high school students or students currently enrolled in a two- or four-year higher education institution. Students must have a permanent address within the PRPA service area.

If selected students will receive $6,000 through the RMEL Foundation. All applicants will be added to the National Electric Energy Career Jump Start Directory which is shared with hundreds of RMEL member companies. Those on the list could find internship and employment opportunities within the energy industry, according to a news release from PRPA.

The deadline for the scholarship application is Feb. 9.

“On behalf of Platte River, I am proud to offer this scholarship for the 10th consecutive year,” Frisbie said. “Supporting students who are pursuing education and careers in energy is important for the future of our organization, our region and our industry.”
