Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order on Wednesday that directs state agencies to begin planning for Colorado’s 150th anniversary in 2026. The state’s anniversary coincides with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

“As we approach our state’s 150th birthday, … we will ensure that we can give our state the celebration it deserves. We want everyone to be able to take part in this meaningful milestone, and together we can make Colorado’s 150th, and America’s 250th, one to remember. This is about honoring our past, while celebrating our bright future ahead,” Polis said.

Polis’ team is encouraging plans that celebrate the state’s shared history which include “experiences of all who have called Colorado home … honor what makes Colorado unique and recognize our shared destiny,” according to Stephanie Hartman, PhD. America 250-Colorado 150 Commission Co-chair.
