Boulder County and the city of Longmont will conduct slash pile burnings at Button Rock Preserve Wednesday through Friday.
The burnings are conducted to reduce the fuel on the ground after forest thinning operations have been conducted. The burns are scheduled when the area is expecting a winter weather system to reduce the risk of the fire spreading, according to the county.
The county and city ensure that the fires will be monitored by staff until the fires are fully extinguished. People in the area may see smoke or flames during and for days or weeks after the burns.
“Residents are asked not to call 911 since a prescribed burn is not an emergency,” the city stated in a news release.
