New Year’s Eve 2020 isn’t going to be like those of the past, but revelers who want to bid farewell to one of the most stressful years in recent memory still have options. Here are some things you can do from the comfort of your home to ring in 2021. As we hear of more New Year’s Eve events, we’ll keep the list updated.

Order takeout or drinks from Longmont restaurants

Though indoor dining remains temporarily closed, restaurants and bars have dialed in their processes to provide mouth-watering takeout options. Below are a handful of the New Year’s offerings from Longmont establishments.

  • Dry Land Distillers

The Old Town distiller has developed some limited release cocktails just for New Year’s Eve, including one that melds its cactus spirit with native sumac berries, gooseberries, and currants; and a Japanese-inspired cocktail that blends green tea, handmade rice syrup and bitters. A third cocktail, The Perfect Sendoff, “is aptly named to put 2020 in the rearview mirror,” said Dryland owner Nels Wroe. It blends roasted pear puree with sweet/tart Meyer lemons, rum, a small amount of simple syrup and sparkling water.

  • The Post Longmont

The restaurant has created a complete beer dinner to ring out 2020.

“Our celebratory meal for four includes the Post’s French-inspired Good Luck Country Cassoulet featuring smoked pork shoulder, black-eyed peas, greens, sausage, and chicken drumsticks,” said spokesperson Callie Sumlin. It’s served with crab stuffed cremini mushrooms, a spinach salad, chocolate cream pie and four 32-oz crowlers of Post beer.

  • Next Door Eatery

Next Door is offering all-day happy hour pricing and appetizer specials. Options include a $10 five-pack of chicken tinga tacos, cheeseburger sliders or Nashville Hot fried chicken sliders. They also include patio specials of $5 margaritas, $2 lagers and $10 pitchers of beer.

  • Oskar Blues/ Tasty Weasel

New Year’s Eve taproom visitors can purchase discounted crowlers and can receive a free crowler with the purchase of three others.

Chill with yoga

Some people approach New Year’s Eve as a quieter opportunity to engage in contemplative practice, refresh and get ready for a better year. That may be particularly true after the stresses of 2021. Those people may want to consider joining SOL 19 Yoga Studio’s New Year’s Eve class

The session includes an hour-long shamanic guided breath journey and the opportunity to engage with others before and after the class. The class takes place at the studio on Ken Pratt Boulevard, but there may be ways to stream it from your home.

Get moving with Zumba

Want to work up a sweat to start the new year? Longmont Recreation's annual New Year’s Day Zumba Party is going virtual at 1 p.m. Friday. No experience is necessary, and everyone is invited, according to the city. Registration is required by 5 p.m. Thursday at rec.ci.longmont.co.us (keyword Zumba) to guarantee Zoom entry. Only one registration is required per household. To register by phone call 303-651-8404.

Support Bootstrap Brewing at Beer Fight Club

Beer Fight Club promotes Colorado Craft Beer by organizing fun tasting competitions judged by brewery fans. Each match takes place in brackets, and there’s a final, grand competition for the top prize.

Thanks to COVID-19, competitions have shifted from in-person to online events, including an eight-brewery competition on New Year’s Eve. Longmont’s Bootstrap Brewing is one of the competitors, entering its Wreak Havoc Red, the 15-time award winning beer that recently took gold at the U.S. Open Beer Championships.

Once participants buy their tickets for the event, competitors’ beers are sent directly to their doorsteps. On New Year’s Eve, they can taste and vote as part of a broadcast competition that also will feature live music and a brewer Q&A.

Try virtual speed dating

Lots of singles look at New Year’s Eve as a chance to meet someone new. With this event, they can, even while staying safer at home. The virtual speed dating event was created by Speed Dating Denver, a company that, before COVID-19, regularly held in-person speed dating events.

The online version includes a room host, the opportunity to talk privately with potential matches, and the chance to be introduced to someone new every seven to eight minutes. The company assures participants of its zero-tolerance policy for bad behavior.
