Skyline Kiwanis host Longmont’s annual fireworks display which costs around $60,000. Flatirons Financial Planning out of Boulder renewed its sponsorship to help with the July 4 show.

Skyline Kiwanis Club of Longmont was established in 1978 and has spent over 40 years helping those in need throughout the community. In 2009, the organization began purchasing fireworks for the July 4 show when funding was eliminated from the city of Longmont budget.

In 2020, the fireworks show was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in 2021 local restrictions threatened to stop it again. The Kiwanis Club partnered with The Fox Hill Club at 1400 CO-119, which hosted the show on its private property. The event will be held at the country club for a third year.

Brandon Strope and Phil Schell of Flatirons Financial Planning sponsored the show in 2022 and renewed its support with a $7,000 pledge. This has raised current fundraising for the fireworks display to $51,237. The Kiwanis needs $60,000 to fund the show fully.

“Our values align with the Skyline Kiwanis to engage our community and privately fund the celebration of our independence through the 4th of July fireworks event,” Strope said.

“We grew up in Longmont and have a long history at Fox Hill so this is a way for us to give back to the community that we were raised in and choose to raise our families’ in. This is what a  community is all about … supporting one another,” Schell said.

The event has garnered other local support such as Wyatt’s Wet Goods, the city of Longmont, Dairy Queen, Sun Construction, High Plains Bank and JD Parker, owner of Longmont Bingo Alley.

The Skyline Kiwanis are expecting the event to grow this year with special Dairy Queen treats, food trucks, adult beverages, a preshow concert and a fireworks show for the entire city to enjoy.

Entry to the event is free. Patrons may only enter through the club’s main entrance, all other entrances are prohibited. On-site parking is available for purchase but spots are limited. As of Monday, there were 81 of 200 spots available. Parking at UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital is also prohibited for the event.

Skyline Kiwanis and The Fox Hill Club encourage patrons to bring blankets and chairs, bug spray and a light jacket but to leave all outside alcohol at home. Food, beer, wine, cocktails and soft beverages will be available to purchase at the event.

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the fireworks show is expected to begin between 9-9:15 p.m.

Because Fox Hill is elevated, the show can be seen from other parts of Longmont. City of Longmont park hours will be extended to 11 p.m. on July 4 only.
