In November, the Longmont City Council unanimously voted for the development of a 85-room, $24.5 million boutique hotel that is slated to take over the parking lot at the corner of Kimbark Street and Third Avenue.
The developer named on the application is Thrash Group which is based out of Mississippi. The company has developed hotels and apartments across the United States and is the operator of the Origin Red Rocks and Origin Westminster hotels in Colorado.
As of Friday, the hotel plans were still in the development stage, according to Grant Penland, project manager for the city of Longmont.
Penland said the initial plan submitted to Longmont Planning and Zoning by the developer was returned with comments from the city in May. The developer now needs to address the comments and return the updated plan to the city. This process could take several rounds before final approval is granted, Penland said. Each round could take several weeks as well.
Once final approval is received, the developer can begin applying for building permits but some infrastructure work could begin prior to those permits being issued, Penland said.
Residents can still submit comments on the project by emailing the planning department at [email protected]. Residents can also view the plans through the planning office at anytime during the process.
