The Longmont Collective, a local group whose goal is to elevate Black and indigenous people of color “through defense of Black lives,” this weekend is holding its first Juneteenth event.

The three-day Juneteenth Freedom Day seminar will address race relation reconciliation.

“This seminar is born out of a rich mixed heritage that guides participants from bondage to freedom, discrimination to friendship and suffocation to savoring breath,” presenter Erica Lee stated in a news release.

Events will be led by educator Lee and her father, Eric Lee, a consciousness coach. The schedule will be:

  • Friday 4 to 7p.m. — Flow & Feast: Yoga flow followed by a culturally relevant meal and discussion at  Cave Girl Coffee, 720 100 Year Party Court.

  • Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Inner Work for Inclusivity & Race Relations reconciliation workshop at Cave Girl Coffee.

  • Sunday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — open house and Father’s Day barbecue at Thompson Park, 420 Bross St.

“Over these three days, we will come together at the table of brotherhood and mend the beloved community,” Erica Lee stated in the release. “We will begin our journey on Juneteenth, the celebration of freedom for the former slaves who were notified of their liberation two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. We seek peace by peaceful (not passive) means.”

Registration is required so organizers can accommodate all participants. Prices of registration are on a sliding scale so all who all who wish to attend can do so.
