The bridge at Boston Avenue east of South Sunset Street will be closed beginning Saturday for utility work.

The street will be closed to facilitate utility relocation, according to Longmont’s Senior Civil Engineer Josh Sherman.

“A water main and two sanitary sewer mains are being relocated in S. Francis Street and lowered under St. Vrain Creek ahead of the Boston Avenue bridge replacement,” Sherman said.

The closure is not expected to last past the weekend. Traffic will be rerouted along Sunset Street and Nelson Road for access to businesses along South Francis Street, according to traffic plans shared by Sherman.

The utilities relocation is a part of Longmont’s Resilient St Vrain Project, or RSVP, and Izaak Walton Reach 1.

Izaak Walton Reach 2, replacing the Boston Avenue bridge, is expected to begin late 2021 or early 2022 according to Sherman.
