2018 Special Election - Ward I
Date of Special Election: Tuesday, February 27, 2018
The City of Longmont will conduct a Special Election on Feb. 27, 2018 to fill the unexpired Ward I term vacated by Council Member Brian Bagley when he was elected as Mayor on Nov. 7, 2017. The City is contracting with the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's Office to conduct the mail ballot election.
Will I get a ballot in the mail? Only if you live in Ward I of the City of Longmont and are an active registered voter. Check the Ward Map to find out which ward you live in.
What is on the Special Election Ballot?
At the election, the eligible electors of Ward I of the City of Longmont will vote on the following office and candidates:
City Council Ward 1 (vote for one)
Russ Lyman
Tim Waters
Joshua Goldberg
Information about the candidates for the Special Election can be found under Candidate and Committee Information. Please note that local elections are non-partisan by state law. Because of this, the City Clerk's Office does not have knowledge of candidate's party affiliation. Please contact them directly for that information.
Where Do I Take My Ballot?
Ballots will be mailed to voters in the City of Longmont Ward I the week of February 5, 2018, and must be returned no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, February 27, 2018.
There are various ways voters can submit their ballots:
- US Mail with regular postage stamp (no additional postage required. Mail no later than Feb. 22, 2018)
- 24-Hour Ballot Drop Boxes
- Walk-up Ballot Drop Box
- Drive-by Ballot Drop-Off on Election Day
Voter Service and Polling Center – see below for location and days/hours of operation
A Voter Service and Polling Center will be located in Ward I of the City of Longmont for the 2018 Ward I Special Election. Voters may visit the Voter Service and Polling Center to:
- Drop off your ballot;
- Cast a ballot in person;
- Request a replacement ballot;
- Register to vote or update your registration information;
- Vote using equipment and facilities for persons with disabilities.
The location and hours of operation for the Voter Service and Polling Center located in Ward I are as follows:
Location: Fire Station #3, 1000 Pace St.
Days/Hours of Operation:
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, February 19 to Friday, February 23
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, February 24
CLOSED Sunday, February 25
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, February 26
7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 27 (Election Day)
In addition to the voter service and polling centers listed above, voters may return voted ballots to any of the following drop-off locations during the designated hours of operation:
- 24-Hour Ballot Drop-off Locations – Open 24-hours starting Monday, February 5 and Close at 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Feb. 27
- YMCA, 950 Lashley St. (near entrance)
- St. Vrain Hub, 529 Coffman St. (north end of building near entrance to Motor Vehicle offices)
- Walk-up Ballot Drop-off Location - Longmont Civic Center, City Clerk’s Office, 350 Kimbark St.
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, February 5 through February 26 (CLOSED Feb. 19 for Holiday)
7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 27 (Election Day)
- Drive-by Ballot Drop Location – Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Election Day ONLY (Tues., Feb. 27)

Voter Registration
In order to receive a mail ballot, voters are encouraged to check their voter registration. Voters may also visit a Voter Service and Polling Center beginning February 19, 2018 (see above for dates, times and location).
