It is that time of year again when people and nonprofit groups need a helping hand. Below is a list of events designed to help others in the community.

Cold Weather Gear Drive for Veterans Community Project

As winter weather quickly approaches, unhoused Veterans are in need of new or gently used warm clothes and other key items. These items include boots, shoes and socks; mens and womens underwear; pocket umbrellas and ponchos, thermal layers and hand warmers; coats, hats, gloves and scarves; small tents and tarps and sleeping bags. Donations can be dropped off until December 16 at the Veterans Community Project at 1228 Main Street in Longmont or at Guild Mortgage at 338 Main Street in Longmont. This cold weather gear drive is in partnership with Good Morning Longmont, Homes with Heather at Keller Williams 1st Realty and Martin Sullivan Loan Officer, as well as the Sullivan Team at Guild Mortgage.

Youth Giving Tree: Youth Form Now Open!

Join Out Boulder County in celebrating our Annual Youth Giving Tree Program!

During the holiday season, Out Boulder County offers their youth the opportunity to ask for gender-affirming apparel/materials/supplies or any other item that they may need/want that they may not be able to ask their parents, family, or friends due to lack of support around their LGBTQ+ identities, financial barriers, or many other factors.

If you are a LGBTQ+ youth between the ages 11-18 and would like to make a gift request, please use this Youth Gift Request Form Link -- bit.ly/youth-giving-tree-2021. Requests will be kept confidential (we will only use initials when sharing requests).

Requests from youth are due by Wednesday, December 1st! If you are an adult and would like to purchase one or more of the gift requests please review our youth gift request sheet and email OBC's Youth Program Manager, Jenna (she/they) at [email protected] to confirm your orders. You can also make a cash donation through this link that goes directly to the Youth Giving Tree Program. All financial donations to this program will be used to buy youth gifts that have not been claimed.

Bell Ringers Needed for Salvation Army Longmont's Annual Kettle Campaign

Each year, the Salvation Army in Longmont, in partnership with OUR Center, helps low-income families with rent and utilities, to keep them housed and warm, with the funds generated from the Kettle Campaign and with the help from bell ringing volunteers. The money stays in our community, it’s a short time commitment, it’s fun and it’s easy! If you are willing to coordinate a group to ring bells between Nov. 26 and Dec. 24, please contact Elaine at 303-772-5529 ext. 224 or [email protected]. You can schedule as little as one day at a local Longmont store, but we do ask you to fill the entire day and coordinate your ringers.

Funds are used locally in the St. Vrain Valley for rent and utility assistance to keep families in their homes and keep their utilities on.

Through Cold Mornings, Hope Marches On

Millions of Americans, including families right here in our community, are struggling from the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. People from all walks of life were pushed into poverty for the first time – joining the millions in America who were already unable to make ends meet. These vulnerable families and individuals often face impossible choices between bills and food, or rent and medications.

With your help, Hope Marches On as The Salvation Army Intermountain Division combats problems such as poverty and homelessness across Colorado, Eastern Montana, Utah and Wyoming, that have grown worse in the wake of COVID-19. With a gift of $25 a month, you can help struggling individuals keep up and keep going. To donate, visit the Salvation Army website

Do you know of another event not listed here? Please send the information to [email protected] and we will add it to the list.
