February 23, 1950 - October 7, 2022

Anne Howard Thomasson-Currey (72) died on October 7, 2022, in Wray, Colorado of metastatic breast cancer. Anne was born in London, England on February 23, 1950, to David A. Thomasson and Anne (Brooke) Thomasson. During her early childhood Anne and her older siblings Isabel and David, accompanied their father, a U.S. Foreign Service officer, to Washington, DC, and Strasbourg, France.  Anne graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle, Washington, received her AA from Immaculata College in Washington, DC, and her BA from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York.  Following graduation, she moved to Arvada, Colorado.

She worked as a dispatcher for Colorado State Patrol beginning in 1978 following which she completed training at the Colorado State Patrol Academy, becoming one of the state’s first women patrol officers.  In 1993 back injuries forced her retirement from the State Patrol at which time she returned to dispatching at the Federal Center in Lakewood.  Her calm voice was well known across the state.  In 2013 she received Communication Officer of the Year award for preventing a school shooting in Canada, successfully cooperating with the Royal Mounted Canadian Police when she received anonymous information from a caller on a tip line (there had not been a school shooting in Canada up to that time).  Anne retired in 2020 after 43 years of service to the state of Colorado.

On August 1, 1990, Anne married Dale Ivin Currey, in Conifer, Colorado. Shortly after, Dale and Anne moved to a farm just outside of Eaton, Colorado where they would live for the next 25 years. At which time they moved to Gilcrest, Colorado and would eventually move to Wray, Colorado to be near their daughter and son-n-law, Nicole (Currey) Dolezal and Patrick Dolezal. Anne loved animals and was surrounded by dogs, cats, horses and cows. Many of them she raised from birth. Some were given to her, and some were dumped but there was always enough love and room for them all. Anne, also, enjoyed gardening.  Dale and Anne attended Timberline Church, in Fort Collins for several years and eventually attended Timberline Church in Windsor until Anne’s health began to fail.

Anne is survived by her husband of 32 years Dale Ivin Currey; her sister, Isabel Thomasson Wallop of Wyoming; her nephews Peter Davidov (Annie) of Maryland and Thomas Davidov (Mary Alice) of California; Stepdaughters Nicole (Pat) Dolezal of Colorado, and Kristen (Jeff) Sanders of Oklahoma; and several cousins, great nieces and nephews and step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents David and Anne Brooke Thomasson; her brother David Thomasson; and her stepfather Bruce Day.

A memorial service will be held at the Timberline Church in Windsor at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Breast Cancer Fund, c/o Wray Community District Hospital, 1017 W. 7th Street, Wray, Colorado 80758.
