September 13, 1928  -  February 4, 2024

Betty Lou Cothern, 95, of Broomfield, CO, sadly left us on Sunday, February 4th, 2024. Betty was born to Joe and Etta Halbrook on September 13th, 1928, in Herrick, Illinois. She grew up in central Illinois where she met Ronald Cothern and married in 1947. Together they had their daughter Jennifer Jill in 1955 and relocated throughout Iowa and Illinois due to Ron’s frequent transfers with Mobile Oil. Betty established a long career as a travel agent and enjoyed numerous excursions all over the world. In 1991, they moved to Broomfield CO to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Betty joined Community Welcoming Service of Broomfield and spent decades welcoming new residents to our Broomfield community. She was awarded the Heart of Broomfield Award in 2006 in recognition of her service.

Betty leaves behind her daughter Jennifer Jill and her spouse, grandchildren Megan and Eric and their spouses, and three beautiful great grandchildren Brooklyn, Izzy and Wyatt.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Sunday, February 25th from 1pm to 4pm at the Lakeshore Room in Broomfield Community Center (280 Spader Way, Broomfield) a place she spent much of her later years in lunches and exercise classes with her friends. Nothing formal is planned, just an open house for all who wish to share stories and visit with family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Light Shine Canine Rescue lightshinerezdogs.org/donate-now/, an organization Betty felt strongly about.
