OCTOBER 23, 1949 – NOVEMBER 24, 2021

Bobby Ray Comegys went to be with his Lord on November 24, 2021.

Bob was born in Borger, TX on October 23, 1949 to Cornelius Pinkney Comegys and Willa Mae Jester Comegys.

His family moved to Laporte, CO when he was four as his father began concrete work on the missle silo in Bellevue, Colorado.

Bob was senior class president at the new Poudre High School, graduating in 1968. While there he participated in band, choir, football, basketball and track.

He met his future wife, Debbie Whelan, at PHS and they married in 1969.

Bob graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO with a Theology Degree and began his Youth Ministry at Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Collins, CO.

In 1974, Bob moved his family to Kansas City, MO to work with the teens at Glenwood Baptist Temple. His “teens,” now long grown, reminisce about how Bob led mission trips, rodeos and camps, and directed teen choirs at both churches. He was often a favorite to sing specials, both solo and in groups. Bob also worked with many different age groups from the young Awanas to the “Jolly 60s.” He led numerous people, young and old, to the Lord through his life and mentorship.

In 1984, the family decided to move back to Colorado to be near their extended families.

A planned short-term job working with his brother-in-law, Doyle, in a painting business became a new career. Bob then became an independent contractor until slowing down toward retirement in the last few years. Until just recently, Bob had continued to work with his younger son, on construction projects in Colorado and Las Vegas.

Bob often helped coach his sons’ ball teams and shared their sports and work passions. He encouraged his daughters with their dreams and his grandchildren in their various pursuits.

For many years Bob played in Fort Collins fast-pitch softball leagues with his brother. He participated for over twenty years in the Fort Collins Old Timers Softball games every 4th of July at City Park. After coaching his sons’ ball teams, he began officiating school and recreation leagues.

Most of all, Bob loved spending time in Colorado’s great outdoors pursuing his favorite passions for mountain drives searching for wildlife, boating, hunting, fly-fishing with and without his belly boat and as a rock hound. He shared many camping excursions and annual retreats with family and friends.

The last few years Bob especially enjoyed watching youth and Eagles hockey games. He also attended Foundations Church in Loveland and Windsor with his girls, where he connected with many new friends.

Bob dearly loved his five children and eleven grandchildren. His children include: Michelle Sundberg (Chris), of Severance, CO; Shawn (Brea Lersch) of Centennial, CO; Nicolle of Severance, CO; Bret (Ruta Jane Karasa) of Las Vegas; and Stephanie of Severance, CO.

His eleven grandchildren include: Aubrey, Finley and Charley Grace Sundberg; and Brode, Leonas, Lelija, McKaili, Lukas, Taye, Hudson, and James Danielle Comegys.

Besides his wife, children and grandchildren, Bob also leaves behind a sister, Billie Waters, of Borger, TX and a brother, Larry, of Fort Collins. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack and “CP”; and two sisters, Wanda and Maple; and an infant son, Scot.

Please join us in a Celebration of Life for Bob, at Foundations Church Windsor campus on Wednesday, December 8th at 6:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make any donations, in Bob’s name, to the charity of your choice or to the Diabetes Association.
